Maneuvering
Metal Drift gets its name from the drifting your tanks will do as you turn corners and pull off wild maneuvers. Only practice will give you the skills you need to master Metal Drift, but we’ve laid out the basics for you here.
Tanks Hover
The tanks float low above the ground, but, this does change your aiming, driving, and tilt of the tank. When you take a landing too hard, you will bottom out. Don’t worry, you’ll take no damage. When aiming at a tank be sure to center on the tank or risk shooting the space below it.
Separate Chassis & Turret Movement
Your WASD controls guide your forward/backward and left/right turning. There is no strafe. Your turret will turn with your tank, and you must control your aim when turning with the mouse. This is the first skill you should pick up to be able to run the ball and fight off attackers at the same time. If you get lost, give your middle mouse button a click to center your view to the front of your tank.
Space Bar Boosts
Your boost drains your power in order to get your tank going faster. This helps to drift, escape, and chase down runners. It will suck your power very quickly.
Drifting Around Turns
Drifting corners and obstacles is a talent that comes with practice and requires you to anticipate turns ahead of time to take them sharply. The faster you are going the sooner you need to enter your turn. The wider a turn you take, the more speed you retain. The tank naturally has a tendency to continue travel in the direction it was going, and this allows you to drift gracefully around obstacles.
